WHAT A WEEKEND!
EVERYONE was ready To Pine Tree 2023

What an incredible weekend! Everyone was so ready to Pine Tree 2023! The tennis was amazing, the weather was perfect except for 5 minutes on Sunday, the food was incredible, the drinks were flowing and everyone had a wonderful time as we have raised over $464,000 for rare cancer research initiatives at Children's Minnesota and over 200 hospitals around the world. Congratulations to our champions!

Some other incredible numbers from the tournament included:

174 players participated - including 54 junior players - and 74 were first-time players and traveled from as far as Boston, New York, Florida, Tennessee, Chicago, Milwaukee and Des Moines to play in this event.
The players raised an incredible $270,000, including over $20,000 by the junior players.
The cash registers were incredibly busy recording almost $28,000 in sales (5,048 transactions) over the four days, including $7,600 on Thursday night, just confirming that everyone loves Happy Hour!!!
For the tournament, we sold 436 Apple Rollovers, 214 6-packs of donuts, 333 Brats, 185 hot dogs, 292 burgers, 107 Happy Hour meals, 624 beers and 166 signature drinks.
We had over 160 high school/college volunteers representing 15 different programs in the area, completing over 528 volunteer hours as part of the Volunteer Give Back program resulting in over $10,560 contributed to these schools by an anonymous donor and USTA Northern, and another $5,280 to the cause. AMAZING!

2023 17U Junior Pine Tree Champions

Bob Marolt Inducted Into Pine Tree Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame Award honors an individual or family that has made an outstanding and long-term contribution to the Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic. Bob Marolt, of North Oaks, Minn., has been just that both on and off the court serving as a player, past tournament chair, volunteer and fundraiser.

Winner of the 2014 Pine Tree Sportsmanship Award, Marolt took home the Grand Masters championship with partner Kathy Bjornson in 2019, and will play in his 15th Pine Tree tournament with partner Elisabeth Hurlburt in 2023.

In both 2016 and 2017, Marolt served as Tournament Chair and then continued as an Advisory Board Member. Most recently, he has been a member of the Player Liaison Committee, encouraging key members of the tennis playing community to play in the tournament and support the cause.

But perhaps his greatest contribution has been his tireless efforts in supporting the cause. He has consistently been a top-five fundraiser every year he has played, raising over $60,000 the past 5 years alone.

Elisabeth Walker Wins 2023 Sportsmanship Award

Congratulations to Elisabeth Walker who won the 2023 Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic Sportsmanship Award during Sunday's finals. Walker played in her 15th Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic this year in the Grand Masters Division with partner Bob Marolt. During her match, her opponent had a medical situation arise and Elisabeth was the first on the scene to help her opponent. Elisabeth has also been a major fundraiser supporting the cause for many years and has been a tireless promoter of the tournament. Congratulations to Elisabeth!
