New Local Sites Format, Same Great Cause!!!
We’re pleased to announce that the PTATC 2020 tournament will be played this year!
However, we will be using a different format following guidance from federal and state health agencies regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Consistent with the USTA’s “play local” theme, we are holding the tournament over a three week period with matches played at a local park or club of the players’ choosing. Each round will be scheduled in one week increments to allow flexibility of date/time and location for the two teams playing. The tournament will begin on Friday, July 17, 2020 and culminate in live streaming of the Finals for all three draws on Sunday, August 9, 2020.
While we’re disappointed we can’t hold the PTATC tournament August 6-9 as originally planned, this “flex schedule with local play” format has the following advantages:
Spreads out the matches, limiting the number of people interacting to four. We will publish important “safe play” guidelines for the players in advance of the tournament.
Allows for fans to come out and watch the matches at local sites while adhering to social distancing guidelines. We will provide “safe viewing” guidelines as well, informed by federal and state health agencies.

Game, Set, Cure!
The story of the Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic (PTATC) is an amazing one! Ron and Mary Ann Peterson created the PTATC in 1986 when their 12 year-old daughter Julieann was diagnosed with leukemia. Their mission was to raise money to provide the medical professionals at Children’s Minnesota a means and a way to research, while still being to perform the crucial efforts of treating children with cancer.
Celebrating its 35th Anniversary in 2020, the PTATC has raised over $5.7 million for children’s cancer research. To donate, click here.
In addition to your PTATC 2020 contribution, please consider making a donation to the Children’s Minnesota Urgent Needs Fund. Click here to make a donation. Video Link: A special thank you message to donors from President and CEO of Children's Minnesota, Dr. Marc Gorelick.
